How Massage & Bodywork

can help you rejuvenate!

Meditation and Yoga too! :)

written by Jennifer Coomes BA LMT RYT

  • When inducing relaxation (such as with swedish, shiatsu, thai massage, or energy therapies), the body is able to release tension and stress, creating calming to the nervous system and the mind.
  • When stimulating (such as with therapeutic massage, sports massage, chair massage), the body's blood and lymphatic flow is enhanced creating detoxification, pain relief, uplifting mental state, and enhanced muscle tone.
  • All massage is beneficial for enhancing body awareness, encouraging natural health and homeostasis (natural state of balance), mind-body relaxation and rejuvenation, trauma release, reducing anxiety, enhancing connective, relaxing, and safe touch, mental clarity, energetic flow and alignment.

Tips to Embracing a Supportive Network Supporting Health,

Vitality, & Prosperity:

  • The universe is abundant with support, affirm that it's there for you and let it guide you toward the perfect fit for vibrant health, vitality, and prosperity in your life!
  • Surround yourself with like minds who speak the same language and support you with positive energy.  They will offer great celebration to your success and help guide you when you need extra perspective
  • Know that health, vitality, and prosperity already resides within you.  It's simply a practice to see it, breath it, and live it everyday of your life.
  • Loosen and release negative energies and thought patterns that might be obstacles or blockages to your vitality and prosperity.  You may not even be aware of them, so a great place to start might be to say "I release negative energy, obstacles, etc...to health, vitality, prosperity in my life."  Continue until you begin to feel change.  If you feel yourself lifting into "good space," you're heading in the right direction :)
  • Release the outcome, think big, it just might get better than you imagined!
  • To commit, do one thing everyday that supports your healthy life and prosperity practice.  It could be daily meditation, exercise, affirmations, laughing, walking in nature, eating healthy foods, hugging friends, saying I love you.  Doing something everyday builds commitment, creates change, builds your inner practice, and it just might change a piece of the world at the same time.  Just imagine if lots were doing it :)
  • Practice gratitude, appreciate the beauty of life in and around you.  Breathe it in, Breathe it out. Share!

So what are the problems we are trying to solve?  More than anything else I've seen, it's the crimes of the heart.  Whether it's been broken, damaged, closed off, ignored, rejected, or just misunderstood, most of what we do or say is related to the expression of the heart.    Our happiness, health, and joy is related to the heart.  Our abuses are related to the heart.  Our feelings and thoughts (if we believe them) are related to the heart.  What we find ourselves doing for a living and how we do it could even be related to the heart.   What we care about and what we don't care about is also coming from our heart.  So if so many things, so many actions, so much of who we are comes from our heart, then the question remains, just how well are you taking care of it?  What kind of priority are you making it in your life?

Essence

The heart is a voice.  If you want to keep it pure and vibrant, it must be cleansed, practiced, and used.  As the saying goes "home is where the heart is" but if we are not aware of our heart, how can we have a home?   If you don't know where your heart is, how do you have life?  Our bodies help us function, our mind helps us reason, our spirit helps us transcend, our soul helps us evolve, but our heart helps us live.  LIVE.  and LOVE.  LIFE and LOVE.  As you get back to it, and onto it, and in it, you'll begin to understand what you've been missing, and what's been holding you back.    It's almost as if your heart starts speaking back to you, unleashing all of the secret unknowns you didn't see or understand before.  If you have ever been overwhelmed by pain, anguish, or struggle, it's hard to be in the heart fully, because most of the time, you are just getting through.  So when we are in those times, its almost like a deciphering mode, a survival mode, because we couldn't possibly understand the range of all the experiences fully.  As we come into consciousness, however, this is the time when our heart can take over.

Sunday Sermon with Ron Merrill

at Cornerstone Christian Church

Ron's sermons have been a great and uplifting inspiration to me on my own journey and I wish him and his family many good wishes and blessings in his new adventures with mentoring/ministering to junior high kids

Thank you to my friend Jim Kirklin for hosting a wonderful trip to Santa Cruz and showing me new amazing ways to enhance my love of photography.  Most of my photography is taken of objects (mostly flowers) that are only millimeters to a few centimeters wide, and as I started, I simply couldn't believe the intricacies I found.  So, it is with great gratitude that I've had blessed opportunities to  explore and the chance to share them with you.  I look forward to one day having a camera of my own, but in the meantime, I continue to thank all of the wonderful friends who have shared theirs and have taught me so much along the way.   It's been wonderfully healing and wonderfully fascinating and fun, and I've appreciated every minute of it.  A great thank you also goes out to Mark Stephens as well for wonderful yoga classes to keep me healthy and vibrant on my journey.  I always love to come back to One Yoga, and if you every get to Santa Cruz, I highly recommend it...it's a home away from home!  Thank you for a wonderful long-awaited visit!

This Week's Flow

Flow:  Space

7/26/08 (Saturday-Inside The Bungalow)

7/27/08 (Sunday-Inside The Bungalow)

"metta-morphisis"

As I'm taking some introspective and quiet time this week to get centered, unpacked, and organized before I begin medical school next week, I found myself inspired to call my dad.  We hadn't talked to each other in awhile with my busy schedule with school, and most of the time the conversation starts off quiet on his end, but this time as soon as he knew it was me (we both have some of the same hearing impairment so our phone conversations are a great way to improve on how I communicate), he immediately began talking and letting me know how he was.  I was fascinated how at ease and comfortable it was to catch up, as if we hadn't missed any time at all.  As he continued to talk, I realized how much I missed talking to my dad.  I began to think, "Why hadn't I picked up the phone earlier?" especially when I could have probably used his voice during the stressful parts of the last few months.  It's funny the stories we give ourselves that get in the way of really fulfilling our needs in healthy ways.

My dad and I reconnected again a few years ago after 20 years apart (I was found by my half-sister on classmates.com :), and as I began to get to know him again, I realized how big a part of me was missing by not having him in my life.  It was as if I was getting to know myself again as I was getting to know him.  I began to understand what parts of me were like him, and what made me part of him and him part of me.  My dad is the kind of of man that holds alot of wisdom and understanding, but he doesn't always tell you, it's when you sit and take the time to listen to him that you get it.  I always love and appreciate spending father-daughter time with him because we really talk and connect and enjoy each other's company.  So in this particular conversation, he's telling me how much better he's eating (he's diabetic and has had two heart attacks) and he's thinking about slowing down from doing all of the hard and heavy work his done for 30 years (he's changed semi trailer tires for all this time), I realize how glad I am that he is making some changes to stay healthy.  I can't help but be supportive because I love him and I want to see him happy and healthy in his life.  He reminds me to slow down too, relax and listen...that this conversation is important and our time together is important.  He tells me about going fishing, and I realize I want him to teach me to fish.  I'm allergic to fish, but I don't care.  It's something he loves and enjoys, and if he is sharing it with me, it's something we'll love and enjoy together (well, hopefully if I don't tackle something when I throw my bait :)

He reminds me that it's a waste of precious time being angry and holding anger doesn't allow us to have the relationships we really want to have now, in this moment.  So as he's trying to re-explain what happen over those lost 20 years, I simply say to him, "But dad, I'm not angry at you."  Every thing you have said and given me with your time and character tells me that I trust you.  I understand.  What you are to me now is what is important.  I know you tried, I know you cared.  I know you still do.  That is what matters to me.
